The Art...

“Between Science and Magic”

Wilson stars in an incredible piece of moving visual art by internationally renowned artist Diana Thater.

The exhibit opened Jan. 2010 at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, next N.Y. and London!

”The most impressive part of Thater's movie is the efficiency and consistency of the magician, Greg Wilson, who performs with the precision of a well-oiled machine.”

New Installation Conjures Art From Magic

Magic and modern art come together in a new installation, "Between Science and Magic," (by) Diana Thater...Featured in the installation is magician Greg Wilson.

During my visit this past weekend, I found that the installation created a mesmerizing display. The repeated viewing of the magic trick - Wilson pulling a rabbit from the hat - initially invites viewers to examine the trick from different angles to uncover its workings. In the end, I think, viewers come away with an appreciation for Greg Wilson’s artful period performance as well as for his magic.

Magic and Art

"Magic is so much like art," says Thater. "In both magic and art, you take elements from the world and produce something that no one could have should only feel the wonder, beauty and amazement. And that's what I think that is the beauty of magic and art.""

A pioneering film maker, Thater's work has been held in public collections including those of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Tate, London; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.

She has been the subject of solo exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Kunsthalle Basel; and The Renaissance Society, Chicago.

A very special event was held at Hollywood’s

famed Magic Castle to celebrate the opening of Thater’s Exhibit, in which Greg Wilson performed a Full Stage Show in the Main showroom of the Magic Castle for the Museum Donors.   Next, Greg welcomed the illustrious group to his exclusive Close-Up Magic exhibition.  The guests were also honored by the surprise appearance of Greg’s parents, Mark and Nani.  It was a big success!

One of the most talked-about moments was when Greg actually cut the artist Diana Thater in HALF !  And then he floated her in the air!

A “dream-come-true” for Diana!
